What We Do

Our Programs

Chionesu Bakari is a year round mentoring and Rites of Passage organization that focuses on personal development. Our programs holistically serve young men between the ages of 8 and 18 and their families. Chionesu Bakari provides a safe haven of hope for our young men. We are committed to empowering them with valuable lessons in life skills, leadership, teamwork, brotherhood, responsibility, integrity, respect, accountability and compassion as they transition from adolescence to adulthood.  During their time in the organization, the young men move through four stages of mentoring, and are grouped according to their age.

Fall/Spring Program

The fall/spring program begins in October and ends in June. The young men participate in workshops, events and activities based on a curriculum focused on decision making, character, and skills development. The young men meet with mentors on a bi-weekly basis.

Summer Program

During the summer the young men are enrolled in an intense 6 week program from July to August that meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. The young men continue their learning and exposure to history, culture, science, health, wellness, and physical fitness through our standard curriculum of character and skills development, and decision making which include day trips around the Tri-State area.  A key highlight of the summer program is our traveling tour of colleges, universities and culturally historic landmarks.

In-School Program

Our In-Schools program applies the Chionesu Bakari Mentorship and Enrichment model to serve young male students in elementary, middle and high school. We work in various public, private and charter schools throughout the New York tri-state area using a program that is tailored to the needs of the young men and school community.

A typically successful program includes weekly 80-90 minutes sessions. The program also includes a required parent/guardian component in which the values and teachings of the program are reinforced through monthly parent workshops and events.

Young men and families interested in our programs and mentorship are invited to contact us to apply for enrollment.
